This bedroom was actually given a makeover last year and because I love experimenting with different styles, I ended up going for quite a glitzy/glam look. This wasn’t my usual style but I wanted to try something new. I still loved everything I did to the room back then but I decided I wanted to tone down the ‘glam’ and make the room a bit more ‘me’. I decided it wasn’t going to be a massive makeover like before but by changing just a few items, I would hopefully change the overall look of the bedroom. The main items I wanted to change were the lights. As beautiful as the crystal chandelier was, I wanted something less decorative and more traditional. I had also fallen in love with some glass based table lamps that I saw in a show home recently so this was my starting point. I like to choose an item that I love and then work around that. I started by creating a mood board that included the items I already had in the room, that I wanted to keep and adding in some new pieces to see how they would complement each other. I love this grey velvet bedspread from Matalan but unfortunately it was too small. The key pieces I wanted to keep were the Furniture from Hammonds, my cushions (I still can’t believe I found exactly what I was looking for when I walked into TK Maxx that day), and my beloved headboard from The Headboard Workshop. I was open to changing my curtains from Dunelm but because they were altered to fit this space I decided not to. I wanted to try to change the style of the room by just changing a few items. The headboard is such a statement piece but I felt like it need some table lamps to complement it. I have been obsessed with oversized lamps for years but I always found them so difficult to find. The ones I had were really tall (they don’t look it next to the huge headboard) but I never really liked the charcoal lamp shades and I wanted something a bit more substantial. I discovered these beautiful glass table lamps in the Shabby Store. They were exactly what I was looking for and they are absolutely HUGE!! They took a while to get used to as they look a lot larger in real life than they do in photos but I adore them. If you compare them to the size of the bedside tables you will get an idea of the size. They are just over 70cm tall and the beautiful glass base is just what I was looking for. I already had touches of silver in the room and the off-white linen shade went perfectly with the white furniture. Once I had found the perfect table lamps I then needed a new ceiling light to complement it. I narrowed it down to this Harvey Pendant Light or Phantom Pendant Light from Lighting UK, one of which was in my original mood board. I eventually decided to go for the Harvey Pendant Light as it was a bit more modern and less ornate. It has beautiful white shades with a silver lining, which match the rest of the room perfectly. I have been given a 10% discount code for my followers to use at Lighting UK. They have a wide selection of lights to choose from, just enter code BYCLAIRE10 at the checkout. The other items in my mood board were some framed prints. I liked the photographs I had in the bedroom that I took in New York but I always felt like they would be better placed elsewhere in the house and could be replaced with something a bit larger. The prints I went for were from Desenio who offer a wide range of prints and frames. I went for this line poppy poster and this matching line poppies poster in the 50 x 70cm size. Although these prints came with a white border I added these mounts/passe-partout and framed them with these silver frames. The background on the prints is a lovely soft grey colour which was in keeping with the room. I’m glad I went for the larger size, as the graphic is quite subtle so they make a statement but don’t overpower the room. I also wanted some better quality bed linen. I went with this Hotel superior sateen bed linen from the King of Cotton. I love the look of fresh white sheets and with this range being a higher thread count, it looks and feels a lot more luxurious than what I had previously. The last item I changed was the bedspread. The one I had was far too small for the bed and I wanted a large one that draped down the sides of the bed. It was so hard to find a large bedspread that wasn’t too ‘glam’. I eventually stumbled across this Brooklyn bedspread from The French Bedroom Company. It has turned out to be my new favourite item as it matches my existing cushions perfectly and was the exact size I wanted. It is a beautiful soft matt grey/silver colour and it's so luxurious. The French Bedroom Company have offered my followers a 10% discount off all products using code MYFIRST10 at the checkout. I also finished off the look with this gorgeous Sheepskin in grey from Dunelm to add some layers and texture to the room. I still have some other pieces to add to the room over the next few months and I am in the process of picking out a darker grey paint for the back wall with the help of the lovely Helen at the Decorating Centre Online but with my indecisiveness I haven’t got very far with that yet.
I hope you all like this little revamp for now. It hasn’t been a drastic change but with just these few small changes it now feels a bit more in keeping with the rest of the house. Love Claire x *This blog post contains affiliate links

I really like the way you put everything together. Especially the grey and white paint scheme.
