As some of you may know, I have been working hard to transform my dressing room into a home office and now it’s FINALLY ready I’m excited to share it with you all. In case you are all wondering why I would want to lose such a pretty room in the first place, it’s because my husband got a new job! Yay! This meant he would now be working from home part of the time (and the dining table wasn’t really cutting it) so unfortunately my dressing room had to go! I decided that if I had to say goodbye to my beautiful dressing room then I would create an office space that was just as luxurious. I started this project back in November and something which should have taken a few weeks has eventually taken me 3 months to complete. I am actually glad that it gave me the extra time to plan this room properly rather than rushing to get it finished. With numerous things like Christmas, my Niece being born (spending as much time as I possibly can with her) and various problems I had with deliveries getting lost or items arriving damaged, it all caused delays. I’m pleased to say that any problems I had with the suppliers mentioned below, were sorted out quickly and efficiently. Unfortunately with some of the items I ordered that arrived damaged I wasn’t able to sort out as quickly (I have decided not to mention these companies) and due to timings it meant I had to replace the damaged items using a completely new supplier. I’ve never been one for having a theme in my home and I love to experiment with different styles so for this project I wanted to go for something completely different to the rest of my home. I looked for inspiration on Instagram and Pinterest as well as the much loved show homes I often visit. I found myself loving decor with dark wood and brass/gold features. I never thought I would be tempted by gold or brass as I couldn’t wait to get rid of the brass door handles in my old house and get shiny new chrome ones! With this room I wanted it to have a sophisticated feel and felt gold/brass was the way to go to enhance the dark woods. My main source of inspiration for this space was Kelly Hoppen and Sophie Paterson but I wanted to put my own spin on their ideas by adding some Scandinavian pieces and introduce a splash of colour. I set to work by searching for images on google of the type of items I liked, such as desks, lamps and paint colours and used these to create mood boards to see how the items and colours worked together. Once I found a style I loved, it was then time to start creating my vision. You can see my original mood board above and the mood board below shows how it developed over time. The biggest job was to first paint the room. I wanted to keep the walls neutral and to avoid grey as I wanted something much warmer, so I called in the lovely Helen from the Decorating Centre Online to help me! We tried a few different colours and eventually she mixed up this lovely natural stone colour that goes so well with everything. I absolutely love using Helen's paint and find it far superior to other paints I’ve used in the past. She is always so patient with me and helps to find me the best shade, even when I’m being indecisive (which is most of the time)! If you love the colour as much as I do then you can buy it here and select ‘Office’ from the drop down menu. Use code ‘homeclaire10’ for 10% off. With the furniture I wanted a desk and sideboard because as much as I wanted to create a sophisticated space, I wanted it be practical too, so storage was a must. I eventually stumbled across the perfect furniture range from Barker and Stonehouse. Their Cannelle range was exactly the colour and style I was looking for and featured a desk and sideboard in black, with stunning brushed gold accents. The furniture arrived quickly and came fully assembled. They are really beautiful pieces of furniture which plenty of storage. The sideboard also features soft close drawers for that extra special touch. You can buy the desk here and the sideboard here. They also have up to 25% off furniture in their Winter sale at the moment! From the offset I knew that white shutters would be the perfect choice for in here. They would brighten up the room but also give a streamline look. The shutters are unfortunately one of the items that arrived slightly damaged. Because of the long lead time on getting these replaced by the company I decided to order some from another supplier with a quicker delivery. I have temporarily just propped up the damaged ones for the photos but I can’t wait to show you all the new ones when they arrive next week! From looking at my mood boards, most of the pieces I had picked out were in a deep green colour which worked really well against the dark wood and the brass/gold accents. I had a space in the corner of the office for an occasional chair and as I had picked out so many green items I decided to go for this gorgeous Mentosa Armchair in bottle green from My Furniture. Not only did it come in a luxurious green velvet, it also featured brass legs which I think makes it really stand out. The chair is extremely comfortable and matches perfectly with the other touches of green I’ve added to the room. I’ve always wanted to add some artwork to my home and I had my eye on the pieces from AttikoArt for some time. From the moment I first made contact with this company to discuss my requirements they were so friendly and helpful. They have a beautiful selection of artwork which you can purchase in a few different colour and size options. They even offer bespoke colours if you have something really specific in mind. I fell in love with their Bella Verde piece in green and gold which complemented my occasional chair and made a big impact on the overall feel of the room. I went for a canvas with a floating frame in black to match the furniture and it looks stunning above my desk. You can shop their entire range here! No office would be complete without an office chair and this was something my husband was quite particular about! I searched high and low for a comfortable office chair with gold accents and finally came across this beauty from Cult Furniture. They do so many funky and retro pieces of furniture and an abundance of chairs but this high back office chair in black and gold was one of my favourites. It’s so comfortable, matches the furniture perfectly and the height is adjustable which is perfect for me when I want to steal the office for myself!! I wanted a large statement piece to feature above the sideboard that complemented the abstract art on the adjoining wall. I decided to go for a decorative mirror and this antique gold Plato mirror from William Wood Mirrors was the perfect choice. It arrived promptly, was really easy to hang and looks fabulous above the sideboard. The next thing on my list was a footstool as I wanted a few neutral coloured pieces in here to bring out the natural tones on the walls. This Bloomsbury Stool from Brissi is made in a sumptuous taupe velvet with a stunning gold rim. Items like this are so versatile and can be used either as an extra seat, a footstool or for displaying pots and plants as I have. Use code ‘influencer12’ to get 12% off. The remaining walls were looking a bit bare and I had been looking for an excuse to order some beautiful personalised wire typography from a place called Mummy Luxe who I found via Instagram. They are the perfect addition to the office and each word is carefully made by hand. I decided to go with a phrase that was work/office related but added a bit of fun to the room. They look so stylish on the wall and as they are fixed onto the wall so seamlessly I think it creates minimalist look. We simply drilled small holes in the wall and inserted the metal prongs that were provided at each end of the word (there may be more prongs depending on your chosen words and font). I’m so pleased with them! You can see more examples and discuss your requirements on their Instagram page here and they will be more than happy to help you. Alternatively visit their website here! I also wanted some prints for the wall opposite the desk and luckily Desenio had this covered with this black and white abstract sorrento print and motivational quote. I wanted to add a Scandinavian twist to the room with these and in the black frames I think they look fab. You can buy the black frames here. When it came to lighting for the room I wanted some grand pieces to create that modern look. As I had matching furniture already, I didn’t want each light to match the others so I went for individual unique pieces. I had my heart set on the style of ceiling light I wanted far before I even began this project. I wanted a funky gold light fitting with white globes but I found it really hard to find one that didn’t hang too low from the ceiling. As my husband is quite tall I didn’t want it hitting him in the face every time he got up from his desk (well I wouldn’t have minded but he insisted)! Having ordered from LightingUK previously, I was keen to order from then again as they were so great to deal with. I finally decided on the Ursa Pendant in gold. It’s perfect for the office as it makes a statement as it’s quite wide but the height can be adjusted to suit the room. You can get 10% off until the end of February using code 'CLAIRE10'. To create some height in the corner of the room with the occasional chair I was on the hunt for a large black lever arm floor lamp. I found this gorgeous twin headed floor lamp from Homelia and fell in love. It’s much taller than most floor lamps and both the arms can be adjusted in height and direction. It is such good quality and really sturdy. I think it looks so stylish next to my occasional chair. You can buy this floor lamp here and use code ‘MFHBC’ to get 10% off full priced items until the 28th of February. Before I even started this project I had already decided to incorporate my Husbands decanter set and this brass drinks trolley from Wayfair UK did a perfect job of displaying it. I have filled it with other drink accessories like this gold bar tool set and Champagne bucket. You can buy the decanter set here. Styling the sideboard was what I enjoyed most about this project. All the storage inside meant I could have purely decorative items on show as there was no need for anything practical on top. I wanted a tall table lamp for the sideboard so went with this beautiful Ophelia lamp from The French Bedroom Company which came with a crisp white shade to complement the shutters. It looks so grand sitting on the sideboard and oozes sophistication. You can use code 'CLAIREFIRSTHOME10' to get 10% off until the 7th of February. All I had left to do then was style the room with accessories. Kelly Hoppen was a source of inspiration for this room as she loves to use natural tones in her styling so I HAD to get two of her books to go on the sideboard and one just so happened to be in gold! You can buy them here and here. I was also so happy when I saw this brushed gold sculpture in Tk Maxx as I knew it would be a perfect fit for the office. It was a bargain at £9.99 and looks fab resting on my new books. On the rest of the sideboard I went for this black faux leather tray with brass handles from Pavilion Broadway which was just made for this space. It works so well here and is perfect for grouping smaller accessories together. The taupe vase and coral was from Kelly Hoppen Home and the smaller vase was part of an old set I had from Debenhams. I also got some small books purely for decoration on the tray. They can be found here and here. This beautiful agate ornament was from River Island Home department which I have only just discovered. I absolutely love this piece as it’s so different from anything I have seen before and adds some height to the sideboard. Other accessories include these black vases from H&M which you can buy here and here. I also got this gorgeous green cushion cover from H&M hich was the perfect match for my chair and I popped in a feather inner from Dunelm. On the desk I only wanted a few select items to leave enough room for my husband to actually do some work! I got this photo frame from Tk Maxx and spray painted it gold. The vase with the gold rim was from H&M and I filled it with these faux Eucalyptus stems from Brissi which look so real you would never know the difference! I also got this water carafe from Tk Maxx but you can buy similar here. Finally I styled the stool with a book that can be found here and these pretty pots from H&M (here and here) filled with faux Agave from Hudson Home.
The only thing left to do is install the new shutters when they arrive and possibly invest in a rug at some point! I am over the moon with how this room has come together and I hope you like it as much as I do! Love Claire x *This blog post contains affiliate links *This is a collaborative blog post
